Madison, Wisconsin
Monona Terrace® Community and Convention Center
Madison is one of a few cities in the world built upon an isthmus and renowned for this beautiful natural scenery. With five area lakes, more than 260 parks and nearly 120 miles of scenic trails, Madison presents an ideal setting for any type of outdoor activity. Over the years Madison has earned the reputation as a “green” destination due, in large part, to the city’s dedication to protecting and maintaining these green spaces and lakes for generations to come.
Over the years , the Madison area has served as host to a wide variety of ecological and environmentally focused groups. In collaborating with local citizens and groups, including individuals at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Greater Madison Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) has worded with leaders at the forefront of environmental conservation, stewardship and sustainability to bring green meetings to Madison.
In 2006, the GMCVB partnered with the new Travel Green Wisconsin program, a business certification program formed by the Wisconsin Department of Tourism and the Wisconsin Environmental Initiative. Travel Green Wisconsin was designed to encourage hospitality related businesses committed to making measurable environmental improvements in their operations. Madison wasone of only a few “pilot cities” selected in Wisconsin. Leading the charge to certify local businesses as eco-friendly, the GMCVB itself was certified as a Travel Green Wisconsin organization for all its commitment to meeting or exceeing the Travel Green Wisconsin certification standards.
